யோக யாத்ரா என்ற புத்தகத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள அதிஅற்புத நிகழ்வு இது. 1879ஆம் ஆண்டு பிரிட்டனின் ஆட்சியின் கீழ் இந்தியா இருந்தது. ஆங்கிலேய அதிகாரியான லெப்டினென்ட் கர்னல் மார்ட்டின் அகர் மால்வா ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் நாட்டிற்கு எதிரான போரில் படையை தலைமை ஏற்று வழி நடத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தார். கர்னல் மால்வா தன் மனைவிக்கு தன் நலன் குறித்து கடிதங்கள் அனுப்புவது வழக்கம். ஆனால் இந்த போர் நீண்டு கொண்டு சென்றது. மேலும் கர்னிலிடமிருந்து எந்தக் கடிதமும் அவரது மனைவிக்கு வரவில்லை. கர்னலின் மனைவி கடிதம் வராதது கண்டு துயருற்றார். ஒரு நாள் குதிரை சவாரி சென்றவரின் கண்களில் பைஜிநாத் கோவில் தென்பட்டது. அந்த கோவிலின் உள்ளிருந்து ஒலித்து கொண்டிருந்த சங்கொலியும் மந்திர ஒலிகளும் அவரை ஈர்க்க., உள்ளே சென்று அங்கே பிரார்த்தனை புரிந்து கொண்டிருந்த வேதியர்களைக் கண்டார். துயருற்ற முகத்தைக் கண்ட வேதியர்கள் காரணத்தைக் கேட்ட பிறகு வேதியர்கள் சிவபெருமான் பக்தர்களின் பிரார்த்தனைகளுக்கு செவிமடுத்து அருள் புரிபவர் எனவும் தன்னை அண்டியவர்களின் துயரங்களில் இருந்து மீட்பவர் என்றும் கூறி கர்னலின் மனைவிக்கு *"ஓம் நமசிவாய"* எனும் லாகுருத்ரி அனுஷ்டான மந்திரத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து 11 நாட்கள் உச்சரித்து பிரார்த்தனை புரியுமாறு கூறுகின்றனர்.
கர்னலின் மனைவியும் தனது கணவன் எந்த துயருமின்றி வீடு திரும்பினால் பைஜிநாத் ஆலயத்தைப் புதுப்பித்துத் தருவதாக வேண்டிக் கொண்டு வீடு திரும்புகிறார். லகுருத்ரி அனுஷ்டான மந்திரத்தை உச்சரிக்கத் தொடங்கி சரியாகப் பதினோராம் நாள் செய்தி கொண்டு வருபவர், கர்னலிடமிருந்து செய்தியைக் கொண்டு வருகிறார். அதில் எழுதி இருந்தது "போர்க்களத்தில் இருந்து தொடர்ச்சியாக உனக்கு நான் கடிதங்களை அனுப்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். ஆனால் சட்டென ஒரு நாள் அனைத்துப் புறங்களில் இருந்தும் எதிரிகள் எங்களை சூழ்ந்து விட்டனர். நாங்கள் தப்பிச்செல்ல இயலாதவாறு சிக்கிக் கொண்டோம். நம்பிக்கையற்ற சூழலில் அங்கே சற்று நேரத்தில் ஒரு நீண்ட கேசமுடைய இந்திய துறவியைக் கண்டேன். அவரது கரங்களில் மூன்று முனைகளையுடைய கூறிய ஆயுதம் கொண்டிருந்தார். மேலும்., அவரது தோற்றம் மெய்சிலிர்க்கும் வண்ணமும்., அணிந்திருந்த புலித்தோல் ஆடையும்., அவர் தனது கையில் இருந்த அந்த ஆயுதத்தைக் கையாண்ட விதமும் மகத்தான விதமாக இருந்தது. இந்த சிறந்த மனிதனைக் கண்ட எதிரிகள் பின்வாங்கி ஓடிவிட்டனர். அந்தத் துறவியின் கருணையினால் தோல்வியைத் தழுவ வேண்டிய தருணம் நேரெதிராக மாறி வெற்றியைப் பெற்றோம். இவைகள் எல்லாம் சாத்தியமானதன் காரணம் அவர் அணிந்திருந்த புலித்தோலும் கைகொண்டிருந்த மூன்று முனை உடைய கூறிய ஆயுதமே. அந்த உன்னதத் துறவி என்னிடம் கவலை கொள்ள வேண்டாம் என்றும் என் மனைவி பிரார்த்தனை மூலம் கேட்டுக் கொண்டதற்கு இணங்க., காக்க வந்ததாகவும் கூறினார்.
இந்த கடிதத்தை வாசிக்கும் கணமே கர்னலின் மனைவியின் கண்கள் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீரைச் சொரிந்தன., அவரது இதயம் ஆனந்தத்தில் மூழ்கி இருந்தது, அவர் சிவபெருமானின் பாதங்களில் சரணடைந்தார். சில வாரங்களுக்குப் பின் கர்னல் மார்ட்டின் திரும்பிய பின் அவர் நடந்தவற்றை விவரித்தார். கர்னல் மற்றும் அவர் மனைவியும் அது முதல் சிவ பக்தர்களாக விளங்கினர். 1883 ஆம் ஆண்டு கர்னல் மற்றும் அவர் மனைவி 15,000 ரூபாய் ஆலயத்தை புதுப்பிக்க நன்கொடை கொடுத்து பிரிட்டிஷாரால் புதிப்பிக்கப்பட்ட ஆலயமாகும். இந்த செய்திகள் இன்றும் பைஜிநாத்தின் கோவில் கல்வெட்டுக்களில் உள்ளது.

The British Indian army was Fighting an Intense battle Against the Afghans Refused to Bow Down Despite Many Attempts. Lt. Col. Martin was also Sent on the Frontier in 1879.
Though Gone on the Frontier., Lt. Col. Martin Kept Sending Letters to His Worried Wife About His Well Being. A Few Months Passed., Though Martin’s Wife was Worried for Him., but Letters Kept Informed that Her Husband is Still Alive.
But Soon., Martin Stopped Sending Letters.
The Battle Got Further Intense. The Menacing Afghans were Giving the British a Rough Time and Rest was Taken Care of By the Rough Terrain that Afghanistan is. The Frequency of Letter Decreased and Soon There were No Letters Coming from Martin’s side. His Wife Got Worried About Her Husband.
The Worried Wife had Nowhere to Go. Failing to Communicate with Her Husband Through Letters hadn’t Only Made Her Worried., but it was Also Affecting Her Health. One Day., while Riding Her Horse., She Passed By Baijnath Mahadev temple. The Sound of Conch and Mantras Attracted Jer and She Went Inside the Temple.
The British Woman Went Inside and Told Brahmans Her Problem. They told Her that Lord Shiva Listens to the Prayers of Devotees and Takes Them Out of Difficult Situations in No Time. They Advised Her to Perform the “Laghurudri Anushtthan” of the Mantra: *“Aum Namah Shivaya”* for 11 Days.
The Legend has it that She Prayed to Lord Shiva that if Her Husband Reaches Home Safely., then She would Get the Temple Renovated.
Soon Her Prayers were Answered
On 11th Day of the Anushtthan., She Received a Letter from Her Husband Informing Her that He is Fine and the British Won the War. But the letter also Narrated Another Story.
The Legend Says that Her Husband in a Letter also Narrated Another Story of How He was Saved Ny a Yogi. Lt. Col. Wrote in His Letter that How Afghans had Entrapped Him and His Men and It was Death for Certain. When a Yall Yogi Wearing Tiger Skin and Trident in His Hand Came and Disrupted the Hold the Afghans had on the British. His Attack Forced Afghans to Retreat and the Certain Defeat Turned into a Victory. Lt Col Martin Also Wrote that the Yogi Told Him that He had to Come to Rescue Him because He was Moved by the Devotion and Prayers of His Wife. The Slab Inside the Temple Explains the Whole Story of the Rescue that Lt. Col. had Narrated in the Letter. Tears of Joy were Falling Down to the Eyes of Lady Martin while Reading the Letter. Her Heart was Overwhelmed with Joy and Reverence. She Fell Beneath the Stone Symbol (Lingam) of Lord Shiva and Burst into Tears.
The Vouple Donated Rs.15,000 for Temple Renovation Before Leaving for England
Soon Lt. Martin Returned and the Couple Narrated Each Other’s Story. Later They Both became Devotees of Lord Shiva and in 1883 donated Rs 15,000 Get the Whole Temple Renovated.
Soon the Couple Went Back to England with a Promise that They would Worship Lord Shiva Back in Their House in England.
