Amurteswara temple, according to scholars may have been built during the Gangas rule, but then the Cholas consolidate with their inscriptions and calling this temple as Arumoilideshwaram Udaiyar temple the same may have been later known as Amruteswara temple. This beautiful temple located amidst greenery is almost in crumbling stage, withstanding a 1000 yrs.The overgrown vegetation looks like it swallowed the entire temple, the vimana is slightly visible from one side, inside the temple we can see a small square garbhagriha and a small ardhamandapa with Ganga - Chola influenced pillars. The outer walls have many Tamil inscriptions bearing Cholas grants and other records. There are many pillars outside suggesting an outer mandapa and few loose images of Dakshina murti,Yoganarasimha and a Kirtimuhka.A grant stone slab which is carved with elephant & bull stands at the entrance though cant see any clear inscriptions but there is one small inscribed stone with clear halagannada script.
A sound of warning: Please be warned of snakes in and around the temple, pl be careful.
